Detailed Information

Smart Works Greater Manchester opened in June 2015.  Since then, they have supported over 1200 women, from every borough of Greater Manchester, helping them with the clothes and the confidence they need for job success.

This Third Term placement is for those who are interested in Manchester’s Fashion scene, and want to support women and communities working together. With this opportunity, you will work closely with the manager and volunteers whose connections and knowledge can be invaluable:

You will work as part of the Smart Works Greater Manchester team on a variety of activities. You will help the small team around the day to day running of the office as well as styling clients – helping women to select suitable interview outfits and work wear. In addition, there will be project tasks that may include:

  • Research and outreach for new referral partners and groups
  • Review Social Media activity and the promotion of the Smart Works GM service
  • Research to help grow the client base to the under 30s age bracket
  • Organise, plan and execute Fashion sales whilst organising stock and donations
  • Research into new supporters amongst Greater Manchester Fashion Community
  • Help with Events and Fundraising initiatives
  • Help with Grant and Bid applications as necessary
  • Help with monitoring existing grant funded projects

Skills required by the Placement holder:

  • An interest and awareness of fashion, styling and women’s wear is essential
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Highly personable with ability to communicate effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds
  • Computer literate and proficient with MS Office, experience of Social Media platforms is desirable
  • Experience of collating and formatting information and data for presentations, reports or newsletters
  • Proactive self-starter, with some experience of working in small teams
  • Empathy with Smart Works’ ethos of women helping women
Additional Information

You will be given a £30 stipend to cover travel costs on the completion of your activity.
