Take your subject specialism into Primary schools as part of a two week residency programme.
- Share your passion – use your knowledge to inspire young people to learn
- Suitable for all – suitable for all subject backgrounds, if you are confident working in a school
- Commitment – 26 and 27 May (10am -3pm) and then the equivalent of two weeks of full time engagement to be negotiated with your school
Are you passionate about your subject? Do you want to enthuse a new generation of young people to share your passion?
Third Term school residencies give you the opportunity to have this positive impact, to develop ways of engaging young people to love learning, and to exercise creativity and autonomy. You will be given some training on 26 and 27 May, but most of your experience will be negotiated with the school you are based in – including the kinds of activities and groups you will work with.
We are interested in expressions of interest from wide-ranging disciplines – artists, philosophers, biologists, computer scientists, mathematicians, film makers … whatever your subject may be!
This activity will therefore require a degree of self-direction. Whilst you don’t have to have lots of experience in schools to apply, you should feel confident working creatively under your own direction, and in operating professionally in a school context (we’ll make sure we send you somewhere really friendly, of course – and make sure there is a supportive professional in school!). If you are less confident, you may wish to apply for one of our other opportunities working with young people – which you can browse below:
All students accepted to complete this activity will be required to complete an Enhanced DBS check, fully funded by the University.
A stipend of £50 will be paid to all students who complete this activity, to support with transport costs and expenses. In addition, you will be able to bid in for additional funding to buy resources and materials if needed.
