aAh! is Manchester Metropolitan University’s official arts and culture student magazine. The online and print platforms are run by student volunteers with a passion for journalism and a passion for Manchester. aAh! is honest, engaging and curious; it explores inventive and thought-provoking perspectives to create a magazine that opens conversations and breaks convention.

With this Third Term placement, you will have the opportunity to showcase your graphic design skills while developing your communication skills, ability to work creatively, collaboratively and with attention to detail:

  • Carry out research to discover new trends in graphic design
  • Showcase your creativity, design and typography skills in our next print issue
  • Work collaboratively on a range of projects including aAh! print magazine, associated online platforms and marketing campaigns
  • Respond to a series of live graphic design briefs to strengthen the aAh! magazine brand

Who we are looking for

You don’t need to be a graphic design student for this placement but you do need some skills in industry software such as Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator to create visual designs. The kind of tasks you will be doing are detailed below;

  • Understanding and interpreting briefs
  • Presenting draft designs to team for feedback
  • Working collaboratively with creative colleagues
  • Ensuring that design work is aligned with other methods of communication
