Alan Harding is the Chief Economic Advisor to the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) and to our elected mayor Andy Burnham. GMCA consists of the center of Manchester but also the regional centers such as Bolton, Oldham, Wigan etc. A key focus for the combined authority currently is planning for the future of the Regional Centre of Greater Manchester (Manchester City Centre and the surrounding areas), and the town centers of Greater Manchester, post Covid-19. How do we re-imagine our urban spaces, and use this crisis as an opportunity to Build Back Better?
In this challenge, Alan invites you to contribute to this plan; He wants you to help us think about the future of our city centres and/or our town centres. How can we re imagine the role of these urban spaces, who might occupy them in the future and how can we turn this threat into an opportunity? Our Mayor is keen that we Build Back Better, using the ‘reset’ this crisis has created to build a fairer, more sustainable and more inclusive economy. So don’t be bound by how we’ve always done things; reimagine. What creative ideas can you suggest about how we might do this?
